A common question I get from readers and design clients alike is, where can I buy good coffee table trays from? So today I thought I’d create a post that can live eternally on the blog to deliver you the goods.
I’ll update these coffee table tray ideas regularly as products come and go, but for now all of the glorious trays here are in stock and ready to purchase.
It seems a lot of the budget-friendly retail stores don’t stock trays. It’s probably why there’s a perception out there that coffee table trays are hard to find. They’re actually not, and this round-up of 20 of the best is going to prove it. You just need to know where to look. And truthfully, it’s often the online stores that have the best ones.
I’ve broken up all of my coffee table tray ideas into styles below. We have a coastal/Hamptons selection, a contemporary collection, a luxe collection and a global/eclectic collection. I thought it best I do it this way so that you know which coffee table tray best suits your home’s design style.
Drop me a comment at the end of this post if there are some coffee table tray suppliers I’ve left out that you know of. Or if you have any questions, drop those in too.
Coastal & Hamptons Coffee Table Tray Ideas
The coffee table tray ideas above are all in a wonderfully neutral colour palette. I’m sure you’ll agree though, they’re anything but boring! What makes these trays so divine is that while the colour is turned down, pattern and texture is turned up.
From marble to rattan, grass to glossy timber, there’s a lot of tactile detail here to enjoy. And the marble vein and geometric pattern in two of the trays above also adds another layer of dimension.
These trays I’ve marked as coastal/Hamptons but you could totally squeeze these into a Scandi or Provincial living room. Essentially any room that evokes a sense of calm and serenity will look amazing with one of these trays added into the mix. I’ll pop some styling notes at the end of this post, but for now I’ll leave the links to purchase below.

Contemporary Coffee Table Tray Ideas
The coffee table trays in this style category all have a more on-trend, of-the-moment feel to them. They’re in materials that are up and coming, or they feature a design that strays from the norm and offers something effortlessly stylish.
The materials I’m talking about here are ones like concrete, terrazzo, black and oak timbers, and even stone. There’s definitely a maturity to them as well; they evoke a casual sophistication and some even feel a bit masculine. They’re perfect for chic city apartments or homes with a dark and moody aesthetic. This category is definitely my favourite style, so I’d be keen to know if you’re into this vibe as well.
These are definitely not trays that fade into the background, so they’re definite design pieces in their own right.

Now if sleek isn’t your thing and you like pieces with an eclectic nature to them, the trays below are for you.
Global Eclectic Coffee Table Tray Ideas
The coffee table tray ideas in this style category are quite varied in look and feel, but they do all have something in common. There’s an earthy nature to them. They’re somewhat rustic. They look handmade and all evoke a certain understated global travel kinda vibe. The term eclectic gets thrown around a lot on design websites, but I would use this word to describe these ones for sure.
Some are obviously cleaner in appearance than others, but all of them look as though they could have been purchased on travels overseas. I’d believe you if you said you found them at a local artisan market in another country. I really like that they have a sense of story and character to them.

And lastly, if you love all things luxe, the coffee table ideas below have you covered.
Luxe Coffee Table Tray Ideas
Last but not least in my roundup are these luxe coffee table trays. These ones really speak for themselves, and I’m sure you understand what I mean when I describe them as luxe. They all have an elegance about them, they all evoke grandeur, and they all feel high-end.
The materials here are a mix of metallics and marble, with a glorious shimmer to most of the pieces present. One of them even features a mirrored base which just further enhances the sense of opulence.
Brass and coloured marble (especially darker marbles like green) have been gaining popularity over the past few years, which is why we’re seeing so many trays showcasing these materials.
These are definitely pieces that have a quiet confidence about them. They’re not overly loud and in-your-face, they whisper luxury instead.

Which is your fave tray from my roundup above? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below.
I have two 42” square contemporary dining room tables. I’d love some centerpiece ideas. Having two makes it a challenge.
(They double as card tables and expand for formal dinner parti).
I would like to receive your newsletter, thanks!
Chris, do you prefer a round tray on a square or rectangle table and vice versus on a round table?
