I only realised as I started to write this post, that almost all of the rental homes I lived in didn’t come with a dryer. Now that I own one in my forever home, I wonder how I ever coped without it.
I know that not having a clothes dryer is a true first world problem, but the antics I had to get up to in my life BD (before dryer) were pretty intense.
When you’re without a dryer, planning ahead is crucial. You can’t let your towel levels deplete, you better not be down to your last pair of clean underwear, and you had better plan well in advance what you’re wearing on a night out. Failing to do any of these means you’ll be sitting by your clothes horse… waiting, longing and wishing that those soaking wet knickers are going to dry before your dinner booking. Friends will text and ask where you are, and ‘my undies are wet’ is not a valid excuse.
Thankfully I’m now part of the ‘haves’ instead of the ‘have-nots’ thanks to securing a combined washer dryer from my friends at Bosch. Here’s the lowdown on how it’s been going after using it the past two months – and what’s it’s like finally knowing how the other half live.
The Bosch Washer Dryer: Compact and Quiet
The main reason I wanted a combined washer dryer was so I could save space. My laundry is not what you’d consider large, and I really didn’t want to attempt mounting a dryer to the wall above a washing machine. I mean, seriously… imagine me with a cordless drill after a glass of red wine. A true recipe for disaster.
I secured the Series 6 Avantixx Washer Dryer, which is incredibly quiet. You don’t get any of those shake-rattle-and-roll vibrations like you do with other dryers. Bosch put it down to the EcoSilence Drive motor and AntiVibration design; whatever technology is behind it… it works. I put a load of washing on and hear nothing until a beep goes off at the end of the cycle to alert me that it’s done.
“you don’t get moisture down your walls and windows. I remember that with an old dryer my parents had years ago. You’d walk into the laundry and it would be like the scene from Titanic; you’d just need a hand print on the window to complete the picture”.
No Moisture, no Heat
It’s not just the EcoSilence Drive motor and AntiVibration design that make this model of Washer Dryer a winner. The Series 6 Avantixx also has AirCondensation Technology. This uses air to dry your clothes instead of water, making it one of the country’s most water efficient systems.
The bonus of that, also, is that you don’t get moisture down your walls and windows. I remember that with an old dryer my parents had years ago. You’d walk into the laundry and it would be like the scene from Titanic; you’d just need a hand print on the window to complete the picture.
In my laundry when the dryer is on there is zero moisture in the air, and no heat fumes either. You don’t get the steam facial, but I still have my cruddy budget dishwasher for that.
The last techy thing to mention is the SelfCleaning Condenser, which means that the machine automatically cleans itself and keeps the dryer running at peak efficiency.
The Verdict
My Bosch Series 6 Avantixx Washer Dryer is a bit of a dream boat. It’s compact & quiet – and the laundry remains dry too. There are a tonne of different wash settings depending on the type of materials you want to clean, as well as a few dry settings.
And the best part: all the magic is happening in the one machine. When the wash is complete, you spin the dial like you’re on Wheel of Fortune and let the dryer do its thing.
