Coloured Lockers are the Next Big Interiors Trend (Win One!)

Coloured lockers are taking the country by storm, and today you not only get to meet the creative ladies behind the brand that makes them, but you get a chance to win one for your own home too. Read on to take in all the designer magic!

Nothing excites me more than discovering a new homewares or furniture brand. It’s more thrilling than being a kid on Christmas morn (and it comes with no festive family arguments!). With tonnes of new brands emerging around the clock, you gotta have a pretty unique product to cut through all the noise. And the girl bosses behind Aussie biz Mustard certainly do.

Who knew there was a gap in the marker for coloured lockers? I actually wish I’d thought of it. These versatile storage solutions are not only practical from a functional perspective, but they’re easy on the eye too. It was the sense of versatility that stuck out as an important factor for the sisters behind the brand, Becca and Jess. And they tell me that the lockers are ideal for a variety of uses.

Mustard Coloured Lockers: A Versatile Storage Solution

And Available in so Many Colours too!

We knew that the humble locker could be used in so many ways and from the start we didn’t want to limit it to just one area,” Becca tells me. “They make great kids room pieces and are perfect for teens to lock their stuff away. But they also work really well in the bedroom or living room, and of course work spaces too. We love seeing how they are used from bedside tables to kitchen pantries and they are even great for storing your Dyson!”.

Launching at Life Instyle in Feb this year, the first shipment of coloured lockers arrive in June, so when I say this biz is new… this biz is new! Launching at industry trade fairs was a strategic move for the duo, and it’s an approach that’s already paying off.

“The ripples that sent out and the support of our fab stockists have been fuelling our growth so we are really grateful that such beautiful stores saw the potential in our products,” Becca explains. “It also exposed Mustard to some lovely stylists and interior designers who have been placing our lockers in gorgeous rooms and helping to spread the word”.

Coloured Lockers are Just the Beginning for Mustard

I get a feeling in my waters when I discover a brand that I think is going to take off, and I really do believe we’re going to be seeing Mustard everywhere. In fact, Becca and Jess are launching the coloured lockers in the UK this month, so the brand has already gone international just months after its birth.

The dazzling array of colours on offer from Mustard is another standout feature for me. There’s a great combination of subtle shades and more vibrant moments available in the collection, making them great for a variety of interior design schemes.

“It started out really instinctively with the colours we would choose for our own homes, balancing bolder colours with neutrals and soaking up the influence of the trends around us. It was great fun picking the final shades and seeing the samples in all the colours really brought it all to life. We certainly plan to add more colours in the future (feel free to send suggestions!)”.

It’s no surprise that reports back from happy customers has been outstanding. Becca tells me that a lot of the feedback is around how amazing the coloured lockers look in real life – better than the photos! And of course, apart from launching in the UK this month, there’s more exciting news for these stylish siblings.

“We will be bringing out a new product too! We can’t wait to see what the next few months hold for Mustard as we take it to a whole new market and beyond,” Becca says.

  • These are so gorgeous and I loved reading their story behind the brand. Their styling is spot-on as well.

I would love the Olive colour! I have just moved into an apartment in Melbourne and so this would be perfect to start decking it out 🙂

Hi I love the olive too, love the books, plant and leather stool. However it might be too much green at my house, as I have olive couches, a mustard would look fab here.

I love the shorty in navy. It’s got the industrial look of work lockers with the metal but the blue gives it a boho indigo vibe.

What a great business! My 7yo showed me a pic of a locker is his school mag this morning and said he would like one to store his reading books in then you post this article! I love the yellow and olive ones the best. The colour palette selected is beautiful so really hard to decide on one. The skinny lockers are also a great idea. So versatile. Could use outside undercover to store kids toys and pool equipment or inside at a holiday house too for owners storage. A wall of the tall ones would also be a pretty addition to a garage. Oh and under bench storage in the home office! So many ways to use these. Thanks for sharing!

  • Mandie

So love these lockers AND its the first time I’ve ever shown my partner something (the shorty in navy) and he’s wanted it as much as me! I love that it will give him somewhere to hide all the random things that come out of his pockets at the end of the day 🙂

Loving the shorty in olive. Other than my fav colour it feels like a bit of nature’s colours brought inside. With today’s trends of palm leaves and leaf prints it would go together superbly

Can’t go past the spectacular Shorty in white. So versatile in any room but would go perfectly in my little boys room beside his grey bed.

    reply
  • Peggy Bampton

The skinny in slate… but all of them are awesome… always wanted old school lockers but they are hard to find.

    reply
  • I love the Shorty in Blush as I’d love it as a bedside table in my room (I even have the same cloud decoration! lol) but I also love the white tall Skinny because that could be shown off in any part of the house! ❤️

    reply
  • Shorty in white would be my pick – slightly selfishly as it’d be for my 4yr olds room…promise. (White would allow me to use it in any space of our home)! These are just incredibly cool, love them all.

  • lisa bristowe

For me i love the shorty in navy. It is for my son’s room who is 10 and we are transitioning his room into a tween room. We recently purchased a new upholstered king single and the navy blue shorty would be a great accent to his bed and linen.

However it is truly the versatility of this piece that i love. Firstly the shorty locker fits the brief in housing and keeping safe all my son’s bits and pieces (how many rocks and gems does one child need & do you really need those matchbox cars that you have not played with in years??). rather than scattered over every flat surface he can see. So for the love of keeping this mama sane by maintaining a tidy tween bedroom, its perfect!

Secondly the other win for me is the navy shorty locker is not only ascetically pleasing but practical. When these two elements of practicality and beauty collide in a design piece, that is the ultimate win for me

  • Jo Woodall

wow, i love that they took a gamble on something and it turned in to an amazing stylish brand. For my daughter BLUSH can do no wrong, my son the SLATE would be a perfect accent piece in his forever evolving big boy room… and for me WHITE. love the light and bright pieces that could be used in any room of the home.

After spending 27 of my 28 years despising pink – I totally need a blush pink shorty in my life! Or maybe a white…or olive? Nah definitely the navy…or the slate? But hold on there’s mustard…and I do love me some mustard! Ok ok I can’t pick, I’d be happy with any of them!!

  • Angela

Without a doubt the mustard! My absolute fav colour of all time Such a happy colour but the hard decision would be to keep it for myself or the kids?!?

    reply
  • These are all very cool. We are building a house so would love one to show off a shorty coloured locker from mustard in one room. Choosing a colour is hard, I’d be happy to win any. Will put a preference on slate though. This color is in some of our exterior house features and it would be nice on the inside to connect to the outside, with a plant on top – perfect. Could use anywhere – likely in 1 of the 4 bedrooms / study.

I remember many a tantrum slamming a steel grey locker door shut when ‘betrayed’ by a friend or reprimanded by a teacher in high school… take me back to those school days when being sent out of class or a friend talking to the boy I liked was the most stressful thing to happen in a day! But this time I’d love my locker to be the ‘vestal virgin white’ of the Catholic schoolgirl I was!

  • Emma D

Ohhhhh the Shorty in Olive! She’s so pretty! I could find a spot for her in any room of my house!

Shorty in Blush! It would look just perfect in our open plan living area. We need to inject some colour into this very monochromatic space of ours and I love the way Mustard has styled this design in their promotional shots. Totally dooling over Mustard right now!

My husband and I can take years to find a piece of furniture we can agree on (8 years for a dining table anyone?). The shorty in Blush is to die for. The soft feminine colour paired with the masculine utilitarian look of the locker means no compromises for either of us, and it would be the perfect (and practical) addition to our study!

  • Gia Scott

I adore the shorty in blush! What a great mix of soft pink femininity with an industrial masculine locker. Would be sweet in my niece’s castle bedroom.

  • Milan Fil

The shorty blush is my favourite – the only problem would be where to use it, as there’s so many places around the house I’d love to style it. It would look fabulous and flirty in the bedroom with some candles and a plant, or equally as good in the study with a lamp.

  • Kylie Tan

My fave design has to be the Shorty in OLIVE – it’s already on the mood board for my 3 year olds boys room in our new house build! Why you ask? That colour, it has the perfect mid-century modern vibe, paired with tan and butterscotch – DIVINE! Did I mention I’ve also got the Skinny in OLIVE planned for the mudroom? So versatile! Love it.
