After declaring that oval dining tables are my latest furniture obsession over on Instagram this week, I thought it best I share the love with you by showcasing a batch of my fave designs from local suppliers.
Some of these oval dining table ideas are ones I’ve used in real client homes, while others I’ve seen in-the-flesh during my showroom visits. All of them are glorious, and there’s a number of reasons why an oval shape works best in a dining room.
Firstly, the lack of corners on the table allows for an easier flow in the room. Secondly, oval tables help you to squeeze more people around them without someone sitting awkwardly on the corner. And lastly, the fluid shape softens a room, especially if the table is next to your rectangular kitchen island.
With those benefits in mind, scroll on as we explore some of the best oval dining tables for your place.
1. Bloom Oval Dining Table
Fresh from my latest design concept is the Bloom Oval Dining Table in natural ash. I’ve recommended it to the client because it strikes the perfect balance between clean and organic. You can see the timber grain in the finish, but it’s smooth to the touch.
And can we talk about the legs? Sat under the table’s bullnose-edge top, they certainly command attention and deliver a point of interest. This piece is also available in black.
2. Benjamin Ripple Oval Dining Table
This is another dining table I’ve used in many of our design projects. Available in two sizes and three finishes, the Benjamin Ripple Oval Dining Table is all about the legs.
Sporting two columns at either end of the table, each with a rippled effect that surrounds it, they draw your eye immediately to them.
The putty colourway you see above it wonderful in-person, but the natural ash and matt black are just as impressive.
3. Parc Oval Dining Table
If you’re looking for a table that feels nature-inspired and yet luxurious at the same time, you’ve got it with the Parc Oval Dining Table.
This stunner sports ribbed legs made from 100% oak, with a high density marble top to give it that sense of elegance.
And don’t worry about maintenance either. The top is coated with polyurethane resin, which provides protection against stains from liquids and oils.
4. Galaxy Oval Dining Table
Be still my beating heart! We’ve just landed on one of the best oval dining tables for small dining rooms, coming it at a modest 210cm in length.
The Galaxy Oval Dining Table is not only a great space-saving design, but the black oak multi-step finish gives it a rustic edge. You can see the wood grain in the top of this one, which gives it a tonne of charm and character.
Pair it with the divine Helena Dining Chairs you see above to take the look next-level.
5. Classique Oval Dining Table
It’s not just the curved design of the Classique Oval Dining Table that makes it so special. The pillar leg in the centre also brings with it a bonus benefit.
Oval dining tables already allow you squeeze more people around them. But, with a pillar leg in the middle like this one, you get no obstruction to legs or feet either.
And because it’s less visually busy, this style of table works well with more detailed dining chairs.
6. Adsila Oval Dining Table
Made from Australian solid marri wood, the Adsila Oval Dining Table features unique grains, cracks and splits. It means that each one has its own charm, and that no two are the same.
But don’t worry, your crumbs won’t go falling in any cracks. During the production process, premium clear epoxy resin is applied to fill larger knots and grain-related imperfections, so it’s smooth to the touch.
And get a load of the colour! It’s lovely to see an oval dining table idea like this that goes beyond the standard oak-or-black finish.
7. Seb Oval Dining Table
I’ve taken a few clients to see the Seb Oval Dining Table on the showroom floor and they’re always most impressed by the leg design. Sporting two pillar legs at one end and a sturdy single leg at the other, this table delivers on the unexpected.
You can see how thick and ample the top is too, giving it a grounded, solid feel. This oval table is also available in black oak and walnut, so you can pick a finish to work with the other elements in the room.
8. Jordana Dining Table
It’s so nice to see a dining table that’s all about the material. It’s the element that shines the most on this oval design. Made from South American Eucalyptus, the Jordana Dining Table has a few other things going for it too.
Available in two sizes, the geometric design of the legs on this table is worth pointing out. It creates a wonderful sense of balance; you get calm up top and interest down below.
Pair it with the right dining chairs and you’ve got a stunning dining room setting to enjoy year-round.
9. Nailem Oval Ash Wood Dining Table
Crafted from eco-friendly, low-emission ash wood and veneer, the Nailem Oval Ash Wood Dining Table is a striking beauty that sports the most interesting of profiles.
The asymmetrical leg diameters give it a contemporary feel, while the dark brown colourway gives a nod to the traditional.
This is a truly special piece, seating six to eight people depending on the dimensions of the dining chair you choose to use.
10. August Oval Dining Table
This one is straight from our latest design project, so I can attest to its beauty because I’ve seen it in our client’s dining room. The August Oval Dining Table is perfect for a number of reasons.
Firstly, you have nine finishes to choose from; a pretty remarkable customisation option right there. Not only that, this oval table comes in five sizes. Again, a level of personalisation a lot of suppliers can’t offer.
Made from timber sourced from sustainably managed forests, and with an angled set of legs, August is a hard one to pass up.
11. Ovalis Oval Dining Table
The Ovalis Oval Dining Table is another one I’ve used in a design project before. I told you these ideas were tried and tested!
The washed natural finish makes it the perfect addition to a number of popular interior design schemes. It’ll work nicely in a coastal, farmhouse, Hamptons or provincial room.
It features a beautifully visible timber grain on top, with a criss-cross leg underneath. It’s a little traditional, but it’s versatile enough that you can work modern chairs or a dining room rug into the mix.
12. Black Cedar Ribbed Dining Table
Got a small dining room on your hands? The Black Cedar Ribbed Dining Table is a space-saving stunner you really ought to snap up.
With dimensions of 130cm x 80cm, it’s petite enough that it won’t dominate the space, but by no means are you sacrificing on style.
The ribbed pattern around the sturdy pillar leg proves that a more modest dining table can look just as striking as its larger counterparts.
13. Porto Oval Dining Table
When it comes to oval dining table ideas, some of you are going to be hunting out the organic beauties. You know, those tables that scream ‘nature’ in look and feel, and possess that handcrafted, straight-from-the-forest vibe.
Well, that’s what you get with the Porto Oval Dining Table. Made from solid mangowood timber, it seats eight to ten people and comes with that divine visible grain on top.
This table will feel right at home in a contemporary, country, boho or coastal dining room design.
14. Teresa Oval Dining Table
Arches are everywhere in interiors right now. We even included them in the shelving design at our Contemporary Country Home Makeover. If you love this trend, why not showcase them in the legs of your your oval dining table design?
They certainly stand out in the Teresa Oval Dining Table. Outside of the leg detail, you also get an ample top to play with, coming in at an impressive 280cm length. That means you can seat at least 10 people around it – perfect for a formal dining room.
15. Skansnas Extendable Oval Dining Table
You know me, I’m a sucker for an IKEA find. And when it comes to an oval dining table that’s more than meets the eye, I had to show you the Skansnas Extendable Table.
Simply flick the levers mounted underneath the table top on either end and it converts from circle to oval in seconds. That means you can keep it smaller day-to-day and pull it out when friends and family visit.
This is a solid table that can cop some wear and tear thanks to its clear lacquered finish.
16. The Lela White Oval Dining Table
OK, this one is the holy grail for those of you who haven’t been able to find a white oval dining table. Putty, sure. Oak, yes. But white… they are much harder to come across.
The Lela White Oval Dining Table not only gives you that crisp finish, but the legs are also not your stock-standard round profile. You get that wonderful fluted detail but in a different shape.
Measuring 180cm in length, Lela is made from solid Tasmanian Oak and finished with clear varnish to protect the piece from spills.
17. Pippa Oval Dining Table
The Pippa Oval Dining Table brings both warmth and sophistication to your dining room. But it also brings a grounding feel, thanks for its 40mm thick top and solid pillar leg.
While you can see the wood grain in the finish, this piece is sleek-to-the-touch. This allows you to pair it with more contemporary dining chairs. It’s a versatile piece that’ll work within a variety of design styles, plus it comes in black if you want a moodier vibe.
18. Roshan Pill Shape Dining Table
The open triangular legs are by far the standout moment on the Roshan Pill Shape Dining Table. It’s a profile like no other in this oval dining table ideas roundup.
The colour is also worth calling out, because it too feels rather unique. Finished in caramel oak, the table gives off a warm, inviting feel. Pair it with some plush fabric dining chairs and you’ve created the perfect balance of hard and soft.
19. Sade Oval Dining Table
There’s something to be said about simplicity in an oval dining table. Perhaps you want your chairs to be the star of the show. Both pieces of furniture can’t be loud, so perhaps you need an option like the Sade Oval Dining Table to act as the supporting player in the room?
It’s by no means boring though. The sleek lines, solid column leg and painted putty finish are enough to give it interest without the visual overwhelm. Also available in a warmer orange tone.
20. Brighton Oval Dining Table
I couldn’t share my fave oval dining table ideas without including a mid-Century moment in-the-mix. And what an impressive inclusion it is.
The Brighton Oval Dining Table seats six people, comes in a charming walnut colourway, and includes a scratch-resistant table top. You can even grab the chairs pictured above while you’re at it, if you really want to commit to the full mid-Century fantasy.
Pop a more modern dining table centrepiece on top to strike the perfect balance of new and retro.
21. Jacque Foldable Oval Dining Table
I love a versatile piece of furniture, and this is exactly what you get with the Jacque Foldable Oval Dining Table. It can be an oval when fully pulled-out (seating six people), or fold the sides down and push it against the wall for a small-scale table that won’t get in the way.
This table is perfect for a smaller apartment that’s not blessed with space, or in an eat-in kitchen where you might want the kids to sit and eat their meals while you cook.
22. Paradis Oval Dining Table
The Paradis Oval Dining Table is like no other in this roundup. Made from hand-quarried fossilised limestone, it’s carved into smooth and rough tiles that are applied to its timber carcass. It’s a beautiful piece of artistry you don’t see very often.
Available in two colours and sizes, this is a talking-point piece of furniture you’re going to treasure for years to come. And don’t fret over eating at this piece; the surface tiles are buffed to create a polished seal to protect against moisture and stains.
23. Florence Oval Dining Table
Composed of solid teak timbers angled to maximise its aesthetics, the Florence Oval Dining Table brings with it both a handcrafted feel and a sense of presence. This reads as a quality piece of furniture you’re going to appreciate eating at.
Able to seat up to ten people at a 260cm length, Florence has an angular leg detail beneath its sturdy top. Pair it with some woven leather chairs as seen above and you’re ready to entertain.
24. Carol Orson Oval Dining Set
There’s a lot to be said about simplicity, about minimalism. Sometimes you want your oval dining table ideas to have a less-is-more feel. This is the case when you opt for the Carol Orson Oval Dining Set; it’s undoubtably beautiful but it doesn’t scream for attention.
The good news is that the chairs and table are purchaser together in a set, so you don’t have to worry about trying to marry the right seating to the table.
The American Ashwood oak frame and thin tapered legs make it an elegant addition to your dining room.
25. Geo Oval Dining Table
Last but not least in my roundup of fave oval dining table ideas is this epic piece of furniture: the Geo Oval Dining Table.
Let’s talk about the legs first. They consist of two intersecting pieces of American Oak veneer and a spun metal cone or dome shape. And then comes the top; a gorgeous piece of stone with a curvaceous silhouette. Have you ever seen anything like this in a dining table before?
This is less of a dining table and more of a functional piece of art. I’m smitten.
