  1. Thank you so much for your professional view and the comments of your readers. I wholeheartedly agree. with all of you. I am not an interior decorator nor would I know what is going to be the next big thing… but I have seen the judge’s homes in magazines…there is no way they would entertain that foul tartan wallpaper, the lilac basins or the mustard coloured tiles. Everything is jarring and there is absolutely no cohesion from one room to the next. WTF sums it up!

  2. I am so confused by the point of the Block and the way the judges score anymore. I understand pushing the boundaries when it comes to design. BUT if that is all they are being judged on each week I think we are failing at meeting the brief of the show – to “build” houses that are going to sell for lots of money. In order to achieve that surely you want to appeal to the broadest market and, in my opinion, that isn’t by pushing design boundaries in every single room. I look at Tom and Sarah’s house, and while I quite like 99% of what they’ve done, winning that check room is giving a false idea as to the final goal of the show. That room feels like it would need a fair bit of work for most people to use it for something other than the junk/dumping/spare room anybody with the luxury of extra rooms has. While I find Rachel and Ryan’s house a bit soulless, I think a Dylan and Jenny a doing a great job at blending contemporary with country and should be further up the winners list each week. I think they’ll reap the rewards on auction day (maybe not with their crazy bold kitchen).

  3. I agree with what one of your FB Followers said about the Judges “Are they looking at the same houses as me?”
The Flintstones handbasin in Rachel and Ryan’s bathroom where Shayna oozed over. WTF.
Those mustard tiles in Tom and Sarah Jane’s house. Eww. I see these type of tiles being ripped out on this American flipping TV shows. Don’t get me started on the pictures on the Tartan wallpaper.

  4. Finally words of wisdom from an actual designer. Thankyou for posting your opinions. I love them and i love your country style. We are building a house soon and i thought that i had no style according to what the block dished up. I am going to follow your design tips.

  5. Putting curtains on a bay window that’s meant to be for sitting seems wrong to me. I’ve seen it over and over again this season.

  6. Yes agree many bad choices by Block people. Chris you did not say how you would have rated.. as in 1.2.3.4.5 your picks – would be interested from a designer point of view

  7. I absolutely the hate the winning room and bathroom. My first place choice was probably the boys. The rest were pretty underwhelming, and I agree with all you’ve said.

  8. Totally agree with many aspects u made about these rooms. The brass bed 4 poster hideous so many lines on wallpaper then more and more lines from bed. Basically all rooms are ver under whelming – very disappointing designs and bathroom tiles so ugly so many looks of railway public toilets in several bathrooms displayed. I cannot see anything startling yet. Holding my breath as I am sure we will see more green in kitchens and it will be a huge mistake. Greens chosen so far for tiles and painting just awful and if they put a green kitchen in these beautiful homes it will be total destruction. So far I have not seen anything g inspiring.

  9. Nope. Just nope. What a sad (Swinger’s) party this week’s room reveals turned out to be. From mustard towels in a pale pink bathroom (Why, Ankur and Sharon? Why?), through to that homage to the underpass at Flinders Street station that offended the walls of Tom and Sarah Jane’s bathroom – ‘Do not spit’, but you are welcome to cry. I need a lie down. But not in Tom and Sarah Jane’s bedroom of insomnia. Pass me the eyemask…the only thing going for the room reveals this week was your blog, Chris.

  10. As always, agree with everything you said!! What window treatments do you like in bathrooms? Even if they’re highlight windows just to let in light?
