Sideboards are a bit of a big deal at the moment. Well, perhaps they always have been. I believe they’ve gotten infinitely better in recent years though, as we’ve moved away from those heavy, chunky sideboards and buffets we all had in the early 90s (sorry Mum!).
Sideboards for Every Room in the Home
The great thing about sideboards is how versatile they are. They were often thought of as a furniture piece relegated to the dining room. They held plates, cutlery, table linen and other tabletop essentials you couldn’t keep in your kitchen. They probably also held a lot of junk. Or was that just ours? (sorry again, Mum!).
But nowadays they are a furniture must-have that can work in any number of rooms. Of course the dining room is still a popular options, but you can also spread them out across the home.
Try one as a TV unit in your living room, a hall table in a rather large entryway, as a storage piece in kids rooms (depending on the look and feel of the piece) and also in home offices as a stylish place to store the printer, paperwork and other office essentials (like a bottle of red wine you use in moments when you’re feeling uninspired. Or is that just me?).
Thankfully they’re also rather affordable now. In fact, some sideboards are dirt cheap. And I don’t say that in a derogatory way at all. I love dirt cheap!
Of course, there are designer options too, if you can afford it or you want to splurge and make the sideboard the star of the show in your space. I always say that any room should have a focal point… a wow moment. So perhaps it’s time to get a sideboard and make it your living room’s leading lady.
