Fun and youthful is how Love Ludie creator Jenna Hutchison describes her range of scented candles, which is rather fitting considering the name for the business came from her imaginary friend.
“It sounds a little crazy… but yes, Ludie was the name of my imaginary friend when I was little,” she tells me. “I came up with the name ‘Love’ Ludie when I was trying to think of a blog URL. I wanted something that no one else would have and that meant something to me”.
The fun and effervescent nature of this local candle brand is evident. The watercolour labels, which Jenna designed, are nothing short of bright and beautiful, resulting in a collection that upon bringing into my own home of late has definitely resulted in some nostril nirvana.
While the majority of candles in the range are white and bright, the dark and moody ALPHA variety (my personal fave) stands alone as the collections dapper fragrance.
“I wanted it to be masculine but not overpowering,” Jenna explains. “I went through so many Sandalwood, Cedar Wood, Tobacco combinations – but I though it was too predictable. I wanted it to be special… and it is!”.
Other scents in the collection include Vanilla, Salted Caramel, Rustic Pear and more – each a labour of love that has seen Jenna become quite the multi-tasker.
“I am literally doing everything myself at the moment… Head Designer, Head of Marketing, Head of Sales, Head of Social Media… I like that I have done it all myself but there is a lot of sweat and, yes, tears that go into it all”.
“Every candle tells its own story and they have all been designed with a lot of love, thought and attention to detail”.
Love Ludie candles start at $34.95 and you can shop them over on the Love Ludie website.
