  1. Contemplating the purchase of a 45” square w/rounded edge Leon Rosen, Pace style all glass table & base. It’s beautiful! What style chairs would you suggest?

  2. Hello Chris! I’m not sure why this has been so stressful for me but we are replacing dining chairs in our summer house and I just don’t know what to do! We bought the house furnished and for the most part, everything was wonderful. The dining chairs are upholstered on the seat with artificial leather that has started to peal quite badly. I’m not a fan of the chairs and would like to replace them instead of reupholstering them. The table is a square table and a beautiful pecan coloured wood. There is a lovely dark blue coloured sideboard that we love in the dining area. There is a lovely creamy coloured wool area rug on the floor. It feels beachy in the house, which is appropriate as this is a beach house!! There is an absolute ton of natural light. Would black wood chairs be inappropriate in this situation?

  3. Hi Chris
    Great article, really helpful.
I’ve found a set of dark walnut elbow dining chairs with a black leather seat which I love but want to buy a table in a different colour, however, all the examples I’ve seen where there is a different wood used for the table and chairs has a lighter table and dark chairs. Do you think dark walnut chairs and a black table would work well together?

  4. Hi Chris,
Thanks for the useful article. I have a West Elm mid-century modern rounded extendable table in acorn on oak parquet flooring. I also have a chestnut colored sideboard that is next to the table. Based on your tips, non-wooden chairs would probably be the best option. However I have small children and need something that I can easily clean. Would you recommend the coordinating West Elm cafe dining chairs in acorn with a washable cushion, different color wood chairs or something else?

  5. Hi! I am trying to put together a dining room. We got rid of our old dining room set and the only piece we have purchased so far is a 60″ round Celadon Estelle Carolina Sand (light pine) table. I need six chairs, a sideboard or cabinet and a rug (possibly round?). The floors are a dark hardwood (not sure of exact name). I am at a complete loss now as there are so many many choices. The only thing I know I do not want are chairs with slipcovers on them, We have two cats and cat hair would be all over the bottom fabric.
Can you please give me some advice about putting this together?
    Thank you!!

  6. Hi Chris,
Nice article, but still confused on what type of chair. I have a black hand forged wrought iron scrolled base that we are getting a table top made (66in x40in). Top will be made from LaVenta Quartz, Snow Drift (white background with warm veins). We have an open concept floor plan and the table will be the divider between kitchen and LR. Kitchen is white upper wood cabinets with lowers a light brown wood. Counters and island is quartz with pale grey veining (LG hausy’s Muse) while floors are Cortec (Sonia). We are trying to go with a timeless, simple elegant look. Our appliances are brushed silver with touches of black. I absolutely don’t feel as if we should go with any type of “heavy” looking chairs and truthfully it is not a large area to work with. What would you recommend? Thanks!!

  7. Hi Chris,
I love your article!! I have recently purchased the Arhaus 62″ (extends to 97.25″) Leighton table in ebony. I came across your article and I am definitely trying to avoid the matchy-matchy look. I would like to purchase 8 chairs that fit tall people (daughters are 6′ and son is 6’4″), are sturdy and stylish but don’t break the bank. What would you recommend?

  8. Chris, I have a 72 inch by 44 inch very rectangle walnut wood toned table in front of a approx. 30 x 30 inch square bat & board wall with a rectangle gold frame chandelier over it. OMG, I picked all of these things and now I hate it. I am in desperate need of a way to make this all look current & relevant.. First i painted the chairs that came with the table, but now I have gotten rid of them. I have a bench on one side & 2 barrel chairs at the ends of the table, which i like. The chair are off white and dining room is currently carpeted in in off white beige carpet. I need advice on wall color, chairs & table top decoration, please. the rest of my house is painted in SW Worldly Grey, if that helps.

  10. Hi Chris. I have a round dining table with warm timber top and black legs. Timber floor in a lighter more cool timber colour. Trying to choose out of a wishbone chair in all black, wishbone chair black with natural seat or forest green Boucle chair with black legs. Small room and kitchen is a warm olive green so I think mixing greens could be a problem, not sure! Thanks!
