I love a traditional Bohemian interior. That probably comes as no surprise because I love every interior style I come across. I’m yet to find one I’m not keen on, actually.
But there’s something about Boho style that appeals to me a lot. It’s so effortlessly chill. It’s got a relaxed, not-trying-at-all look to it that I really do love.
I showed you in this post how amazing boho can look when you mix it with coastal design, but in today’s post the look I’m showcasing is going in a different direction.
It’s a darker direction. A more moody and masculine direction. And predictably, I’m smitten!
The Moody Bohemian Interior Trend
You could almost call this look boHIMian, because it does have a manly vibe to it. Everything you know and love about boho is there, but the dial has been turned a little.
It’s still relaxed. It’s still chilled out. It still feels effortless. And it’s still packed with texture upon texture upon texture. That cosy, rustic vibe is still ever-present, but there’s an injection of colour. Muddy and muted colours, to be precise (like in this trend).
There are great brands like Sage and Clare who do boho with a colourful, Indian twist. But this look is different. It’s earthy and more grounded. Even a bit native Australian, come to think of it.
Rustic, Handcrafted, and Less White
The classic Bohemian interior is very rustic, but quite coastal in aesthetic and quite white in its colour origins. This new look features a tonne more colour, so feel free to introduce deep blues, tans, terracottas, mustard and charcoal greys.
And in terms of textures, think leather, wicker, suede and velvet. Keep the weathered woods you’d see in a classic bohemian interior, but make them darker and more industrial.
With accessories, look to pieces that look hand-crafted, like bowls and vases in interesting shapes. A mix of matte and glazed finishes will keep the look interesting.
Soft furnishings with embellishments like pom poms will do the trick too, as seen in the mood board below.
