It seems I’m putting swivel armchair ideas into every design concept I work on these days. Clients are requesting them a lot, and I’m more than happy to oblige.
Perhaps the move toward this design comes down to ease-of-access; the swivel does make getting out of the chair a whole lot easier. Some clients have them near windows so they can turn to see the view when the desire strikes. I suppose others are into them because they’re considered on-trend.
I honestly don’t see them as a fleeting design moment though. I feel the swivel chair is here to stay. So if you’re on the hunt for one for your place, I have 25 of the best for you below, from some of our most-used suppliers. Enjoy the ideas and inspiration.
1. Billie Swivel Armchair
The Billie Swivel Armchair is not only generously sized with plenty of lower back support, but its scoop profile means it can fill the corner of a room perfectly.
And can we talk about the shearling fabric? The crisp white colour brings a touch of elegance, while the fabric itself screams cuddles thanks to its ultra-soft, tactile quality.
This is a swivel armchair you can happily curl up in for hours.
2. Ina Occasional Chair
Sometimes you want your swivel chair to blend into the background. But sometimes you want it to be the star of the show. You definitely get the latter with the Ina Occasional Chair.
The pattern weave texture on this chair draws your eye and adds interest to your space. But there’s a comfort story to tell here too. Featuring a thick curved back and plush seat, this is a swivel chair that’s petite in profile all white assuring maximum cosiness.
3. Autumn Leather Accent Swivel Chair
You know, I’ve confessed on the blog before that there are certain leathers I will never recommend you purchase, but a gorgeous tan isn’t one of them.
It looks right at home on the Autumn Leather Accent Swivel Chair; a generously sized beauty you can curl up in for ages. With a swivel base and curved back, what’s not to love about this dapper number?
4. Heb Swivel Armchair
I ordered the Heb Swivel Armchair for a client recently and sat in it when it arrived. It is divine, let me assure you of that. It’s low-profile swivel chair that doesn’t dominate a space, but allows you to pop in an accent colour to elevate the room if you wish.
And don’t worry if green’s not your thing. There are loads of other fabric options to choose from. I can see this chair in a living room, of course, but also a teenage’s gaming room or upstairs retreat.
5. Minetta Rattan Swivel Chair
Can we stop to appreciate that there’s finally a rattan swivel chair on the market? This has been a long time coming. If your home if decked out in a coastal or bohemian style, allow me to introduce you to your new must-have: the Minetta Rattan Swivel Armchair.
The rounded silhouette in this chair means you can pull it away from the wall; it’s gorgeous from all angles. And just because the frame is rattan doesn’t mean you don’t get comfort. The extra plush cushions do a lot of work to ensure it’s a soft sit.
6. Juno Orb Sofa Chair
I’ve specified the Juno Orb Sofa Chair for a number of my design clients, because it really does tick all the boxes. Available in four colours, the grey fabric you see above is a works-with-anything standout for me.
It’s packed with comfort too. The high back and arms hug you when you sit, but are low enough that they don’t dominate the room the way a wingback chair would. The support cushions at the back bring an extra layer of softness. There’s a lot to love about this swivel chair!
7. Kennedy Luca Occasional Chair
It’s hard to find a swivel armchair that walks the line between modern and retro, but the Kennedy Luca Occasional Chair does it perfectly. Available in three fabrics, it gives a nod to an art deco era while feeling completely current at the same time.
The toffee velvet fabric you see above is the standout for me, but there’s a more neutral bone weave available, and an equally impressive soft moss to explore as well.
8. Astrid Swivel Armchair
When considering swivel armchair ideas for your place, it can pay to think outside the box. A chair like the Astrid Swivel Armchair can best be described as an ‘everywhere chair’; nowhere near as bulky as some of the others in this roundup, and one you can move around your home with ease.
Available in three neutral fabrics and sporting striking metal legs, this is a swivel chair that would shine in your home office, living room, or even an awkward corner at home that’s begging to be filled.
9. Cadence Armchair
Featuring internal web and spring suspension, and filled with foam for comfort, the Cadence Armchair is one you can enjoy an extended sit in.
Available in three neutral tones, all sporting that stunning metallic swivel base, the Cadence brings with it a touch of luxury, but also a presence. That arm profile really is rather beautiful, and I can see it working nicely in a moody home office setting.
10. Espasso Swivel Armchair
When it comes to boucle, you either love it or you hate it. I’m yet to meet someone who’s indifferent. If you’re on team ‘love’, consider the chic and moody Espasso Swivel Chair added to cart.
Plush to sit in and ample in size, Espasso features a fully articulated swivel mechanism for maximum relaxation. And if you want to explore options beyond boucle, you can. There are velvet fabrics available too, as well as a few faux sheepskin and linens.
11. Viv Swivel Armchair
There’s more than meets the eye with the Viv Swivel Armchair. Sure, it’s comfortable, the profile is interesting, and the colourway is soothing. But there’s a low-maintenance benefit that must be called out.
The hatched texture and multicoloured threads on Viv means it hides stains well and can withstand a lot of wear and tear. Perfect for high-traffic use (tested up to 50,000 rubs) it’s an easy-clean swivel armchair you won’t have to worry over.
12. Arima Armchair
How refreshing is it to see a blue option amongst all these swivel armchair ideas? The Arima Armchair is another I’ve sat on in-person in the showroom, so I can attest to its impressive profile and sense of comfort.
The high-density foam filling with web suspension ensures a soft seat experience, while the smooth swivel mechanism means you can get in and out of it easily. A winning option at a great price point.
13. Judi Velvet Swivel Armchair
The Judi Velvet Swivel Armchair is a curvaceous piece that certainly makes a statement. The profile delivers a lot of visual interest, while the fabric brings a richness and luxury to the room.
Because the dimensions of this swivel armchair are on the smaller side, you be mad not to have two of them sit side-by-side in a formal living room to really lean into the sense of sophistication.
14. Fleur Swivel Lounge Chair
The Fleur Swivel Lounge Chair is a voluptuous beauty with generous curves. Available in five different fabric colours, you can spin a full 360 degrees in the tone of your choice.
The rust velvet above is my fave from the fabrics available, but there’s also a few boucle finishes to explore as well. At 91cm wide, Fleur is by no means a small chair, offering you enough space to curl up with a good book without it dominating the room.
15. Janis Fabric Armchair
There are petite swivel armchair ideas in this post, but the Janis Fabric Armchair is not one of them. This ample chair measures 120c wide, so it’s unapologetically large – perfect for a cinema room, rumpus room, or the corner of a large main bedroom.
You’ll notice it comes in the lovely grey fabric above. It’ll work in with any other colours you have going on in your space. But do take note that it’s also available in a more vibrant ginger brown fabric if you want to inject some bolder hue into the room.
16. Victor Swivel Chair
When it comes to swivel armchair ideas, you’ll find that most of them have curved backs. But what about the designs that celebrate structure and clean lines? The Victor Swivel Armchair does just that, giving you a more orderly profile while still delivering comfort.
Supported by a hardwood timber frame, the chair boasts elegant vertical channels, which are striking without being too over-the-top. If you want a swivel chair with understated luxury, this is it.
17. Xander Swivel Armchair
Available in leather and fabric finish, the Xander Swivel Armchair is a brand new beauty in need of a home. Yours might just be the place for him if his chunky silhouette appeals to you.
While the top of this swivel armchair is undoubtably bulkier, it strikes the perfect sense of balance thanks to its sleek metal base. A dapper armchair like this brings with it a mid-Century feel, so if that design style is your kinda vibe, you need to snap him up.
18. Valentina Love Chair
Let’s start with the best part above the Valentina Love Chair: it’s available in over 50 fabrics. That means you can tailor it perfectly to work in with the style and colour of your space at home.
And now for the comfort. You can see just by looking at it how plush and cosy this swivel armchair is. The tall arms and curved back help make this 130cm-wide stunner a destination for two. I can absolutely see you falling asleep in this one.
19. Colette Swivel Armchair
How nice is it to see a swivel armchair idea with a high back like this? The Colette Swivel Armchair screams ‘neck support’ thanks to its built-in pillow. The pocket spring filled seat also offers up comfort for your tush, while the curved arms keep you feeling snug and hugged.
This is a great armchair for any room, but I can see it working especially well as a nursing chair for new mums in a nursery design like these ones.
20. Luna Swivel Chair
This is another one straight from my interior design projects. I’ve used the Luna Swivel Chair in a number of homes, and for a few good reasons.
Firstly, it’s super comfortable without you sinking into it too much. The profile delivers on the luxury front; there’s a delicate nature to the curve but the overall piece is still sturdy. And it comes in so many colours. I’ve done it in light blue a few times and it looks sensational.
You can see this chair in the sitting room of our Port Melbourne project if you want to view it in a real-world setting.
21. Arden Performance Swivel Armchair
The Arden Performance Swivel Armchair comes in two finishes. You can get it as seen above, with the fabric top and leather underside. Or, go full throttle with it completely decked out in tan leather. Both are impressive, and feature delicate metal legs for the ultimate swivel experience.
This swivel armchair idea definitely leans in a mid-Century direction, but it will work in with a variety of design styles, so don’t feel you can’t shop outside the box and mix it into your current scheme.
