If you ever needed proof that auditioning for House Rules can dramatically change your life, look no further than Adam Doville.
After appearing on the 2014 season of the popular Channel 7 reno show, Adam scored a hosting gig on Channel 7’s Better Homes & Gardens, won a silver Logie for best new talent, and has recently celebrated the arrival of his baby girl with wife Lisa.
I caught a few minutes with Adam as Better Homes & Gardens Live approaches in both Sydney and Melbourne, to ask about his wild ride in the spotlight since House Rules wrapped up a few years ago. And of course, to discuss life as a new dad to his baby girl, Arabella.

A new baby girl and a Logie win have been two highlights for you in 2016. Can this year get any better?
“It was a massive week I think it will be hard to top that. I definitely could not have asked for a better year”.
How have you found being a new dad? Are you loving every minute of it?
“I do love been a Dad. I said to my wife I feel like my life has just begun. It’s hard work, people are not lying when they say you don’t get any sleep, but every time she smiles it melts my heart and makes it all worth it”.
Has bubba been visited by the BH&G team?
“The whole BHG team is going to Maroochydore for a Bunnings shot, so I’m taking Lisa and Arabella with me so they can all meet her”.
What are you looking forward to most about BH&G Live this year?
“Meeting the fans of the show it’s always good, and there are so many exhibitors there with great products on display it really is a fun day out. I love doing the live demo shows too hoping to give people some motivation to get into DIY”.
It’s been a wild ride since you auditioned for House Rules. How has it changed your life?
“Since House Rules my life couldn’t have changed any more. I had a small building company specialising in renos and extensions, now I’m a presenter on BH&G.
I now spend a lot my time up in the air flying around to different states filming. People ask me for photos with them that still blows me away! Plus I won a Logie! If someone said that would happen 12 months ago I would have told them they’re crazy!
It really has been an exciting and life changing time the last 3 years. I feel very lucky to have been given this opportunity”.
What do you love most about filming and working on Better Homes & Gardens?
“Where do I start? I love been able to give people inspiration and ideas and hopefully make their next DIY project a bit easier with tips that they might pick up from my segments”.
I also love working with the team. Everyone that works on the show puts in 110% and it really is a good environment to work in with lots of laughs along the way. You can’t ask for more than that out of a job.
Is there anything else coming up for you and Lisa that you can share with readers?
“Yes; if having a baby wasn’t enough we have actually bought a house to renovate and extend. We are in the planning stage at the moment which is very exciting, so hopefully we’ll be ready to start at the end of the year”.
