The Block is Back (Already) and Former Contestants are Returning

Just when you thought it was safe to go out this spring and enjoy life beyond your TV set, The Block’s new season is back – landing at the end of the month – and is set to have us all glued to our screens again.

The ratings had hit a slump during the last season of the show, promoting the creators to adopt a back-to-basics direction for the show’s 11th season, which is rumoured to be called The Blocktagon.

Co-creator of the show, Julian Cress, told news.com.au that the show was ditching tradies and focusing on passionate Aussies who adore design.

In addition, the show is going to scrap eliminations and will see the teams focus on renovating the former Hotel Saville in Melbourne’s South Yarra.

“Just about everybody in Melbourne has used this octagon building as a landmark. It’s an iconic landmark, but an ugly one. Our job is to give it a new lease on life,” Julian said.

What show is doing this season on The Blocktagon, which it did in the last, is bring back a former team to compete.

While Darren and Dea made a second appearance in last season’s Triple Threat, the new season will see brother and sister team Ebony and Luke return (they didn’t make it past the elimination round last season).

Scott Cam is back hosting with Shelley Craft, and is looking forward to a brand new season.

“In its day, [Hotel Saville] was state of the art. It’s had a colourful history,” he told news.com.au, “But as it has aged it has become a bit of an eyesore on the landscape of South Yarra. We are about to transform it into an icon as opposed to an eyesore. The neighbours can’t wait.”
