At the start of each year I always predict the hot trends I think will dominate our lives for the next 12 months. But what I neglected in this year’s forecast was the glorious trend we’re exploring in this post. It’s feminine, sophisticated, but still grounded and moody. So let me unveil it to you – and show you how to rock it yourself at home!
Meet the new Minerals Trend
The new theme that’s really rocking my world is called Minerals; created by the interior design team at Metricon as part of their LookBook. The Metricon LookBook is jam-packed with an array of interior design schemes designed to help home buyers – and decorating addicts like me – put their interiors together with ease (and a huge slice of designer inspiration).
The best part?
What I love about the minerals trend is that it rounds up the best bits from so many other interior design styles and merges them to pure perfection. The result, as you can see in the photos here, is a selection of rooms that feel perfectly balanced; yin and yang, soft and hard, masculine and feminine, sophisticated and casual, neutral yet colourful. The list goes on.
It’s not easy to mesh styles like this and create spaces with such wow factor. But over my year working with the team at Metricon I can vouch for the fact that their interior designers are second to none. And what magic they’ve created here!
What makes Minerals so Special
Minerals is a stylish and contemporary scheme, created through the use of organic materials. The focus here is all about beautiful textures and finishes, bringing a sense of luxury to a space that you can then play off of with fun and relaxed accessories.
It’s important to note, though, that this is a fairly minimalist trend. Look for statement pieces in a larger scales as opposed to loads of knick-knacks.
Restraint is the key to getting this look right. You’ve got to edit, edit, edit. There’s a lot of room here for the furniture and homewares to shine as individual pieces, so ensure you veer away from making the space feel cramped. This is all about relaxed sophistication; an approach that lets items breathe.
The beauty of this look is that it’s timeless, too, so you can execute the trend at home now and take solace in the fact that you won’t need to conduct a decorating overhaul in six months or a year’s time.

How to Rock the Minerals Trend
Follow this guide to combine all of the interior design styles inherent in the Minerals trend and you’ll be well on your way to creating a space that feels elegant but relaxed.
- The base is neutral in colour; white, soft greys and warm browns dominate walls and floors
- The materials are natural and organic; think timber, marble, copper and more
- Black and white art, geometric cushions and bold bedding add graphic edge
- Decor in blush pinks, yellows and mint bring some fun – but apply in small doses
- Metallics finish off the look, but only the occasional pop in each room
- Ensure pieces have room to breath and that you don’t over-accessorise
