I named myself the fourth, couch-bound judge on this season the The Block (they’re yet to Skype me in during their walk-throughs – rude!), so I thought it best that I give you my stylist’s two-cents on the best and worst from last night’s master bedroom reveals – with no reference, of course, to the ‘spy-gate’ phone recording drama.
Shannon and Simon’s master bedroom is me all over. I gasped when I saw it during the reveal and I gasped again when I was putting this blog post together. The colours, layout, textures and scale in this room is just so perfect – and there’s not a thing I don’t love about it.
The bedhead is possibly my fave part of the room; it’s bold, colourful but not at all whimsical or juvenile. Balanced out with contrasting copper pendants, the space feels grown up and unified. You know, everything feels like it belongs there without the room feeling too over-styled (and that’s an incredibly hard line to walk, mind you).
The nook in the corner with those two armchairs and glass-top table is also a moment of utter divinity. It feels understated and special. Again, like it’s just meant to be there.
Why the judges weren’t doing cartwheels in this space is beyond me!
The joy I felt for Shannon and Simon’s master bedroom did not extend to the space created by Darren and Dee. I understand that there were some dramas there and that they didn’t get to finish off the room, but bringing in others to finish it off did not help here.
The space felt lacklustre, there were very few wow moments and the area in front of and around the fireplace was a missed opportunity. If you’re going to create a space for a fireplace, you need to create a gorgeous scene around it that you can sit at – and they never quite got there.
The large pendants detract from the space rather than adding to it, too. Overall it just felt a bit…meh.

i’m not at all wowed by any of the rooms, wish they had a bigger budget and double the time to finish these rooms
I think there were good parts, but more time and money will always help.
Chris, I thought of you when I saw that bedhead…it’s so your style. The boys are doing great – luv their work.
I liked the boy’s room and I do like how the two D’s have a consistent style throughout their whole apartment (unlike Chris & Jenna whose style changes from room to room – yuck). I liked the winners bedroom…it was very nice. In general though this show is sh!ting me to tears — why have they not gotten the structural things ready BEFORE the contestants even get into the building. The contestants are wasting days because the building si not ready for them and I think everything is so shonky…I would NOT ever buy a flat in this building for fear it’d collapse on me.
