What a disappointing week it was on The Block Glasshouse. The living room is hands-down my fave room of the house and four out of the five teams created dud spaces – and then felt offended when qualified judges called them out on it. It was the first week I felt rather annoyed by the reveals. Let’s examine why!
Maxine and Karstan’s room lacked some serious cosiness. The judges were delighted with it but I was let down. The light coming in from the window was doing a lot of the work to create mood in the space, but at night all of those hard surfaces would make for a very cold room. The coffee table was also way too small and too for away from the couches. It felt like a hotel suite, but not in a good way.

Shannon and Simon usually wow be but again I was let down. That lonely, black TV against the light, paneled wall made for a horrible contrast, and the dining table and chairs felt dated and done to death. I am with Neale on the artwork; not a fan at all (except for the one panel with the charming text – I would take that one on its own). The sideboard was their one wow moment in the space. I wish they’d have carried it through the rest of the room.
Chris and Jenna’s space was so wrong – and despite their getting offended with the word ‘soulless’, that’s exactly what it was. To me, it felt like a movie set. Nothing felt real or inviting or lived-in at all. The mammoth TV was not right in the space and the blind covering the window – which did look like a projector screen – was a bad choice. The wall colour is the biggest issue in the space; cold and muddy.

Darren and Dee’s kitchen was my fave last week but this week their lounge and dining room was the fourth let down of the episode. It was just a bit… blah. The zone under the stairs, which they complained was hard to style, would have looked great with a hall table, a lamp and some flowers or art – easy! The room did have a lot going on in it and made the place feel cramped.
Hallelujah to Michael and Carlene! I was beginning to think all hope was lost until time came to reveal their room. They clearly saved the best for last because this space was a real stunner. The exposed bright wall was amazing, the shelf was magical, the furniture choices were perfection and there really wasn’t a bad word to say about it! I could happily live in that space for years. Let me at it!

Not a fan of any of the spaces but I did like a fair few of the furniture choices individually.
Michael and Carlene did an amazing job! It actually looks like people could use that room 🙂
